Periodontal Diseases

Periodontal diseases, also known as gum diseases, are some of the most common infections in the United States. In fact, more than 75% of American adults over age 35 have some form of Periodontal diseases.

Despite the number of people infected with these diseases, most people believe they don't have them. In a recent survey, eight out of ten Americans believed they did not have periodontal diseases, but seven out of ten exhibited one or more symptoms.

Periodontal diseases are painless until their advanced stages. If left untreated, periodontal diseases can result in bad breath, bad taste, red swollen and bleeding gums, receding gums, sensitive teeth and, eventually, tooth loss. In fact, periodontal disease is the leading cause of adult tooth loss. You may have periodontal disease and not have any of these symptoms.

Periodontal diseases are chronic infections which also represent a risk factor for many systemic diseases and conditions. Recent research indicates a relationship between periodontal disease and subsequent development of cardiovascular disease, fatal heart disease, stoke, bacterial pneumonia and pre-term low birth weight babies. Early attention to periodontal disease can make a significant contribution to your overall health.

Start smiling !
If you're not happy with your smile, there are
cosmetic periodontal and dental procedures
available now that could help you achieve
the look and smile you want.

The following are just a few cosmetic periodontal procedures:

Gummy smile or uneven gum line / short teeth:
If you feel that your teeth are too short and your smile is too "gummy" or that your gum line is uneven, covering too much of some teeth, while leaving others the right length, a simple cosmetic treatment might be just right for you.

Long Teeth / Exposed Roots:
If one or more of your teeth are too long, exposing the unattractive tooth root, there are special periodontal procedures that can cover those roots to reduce gum recession and to prevent development of cavities and sensitivity.

Indentations in the gums and jawbone:
Sometimes when you lose one or more teeth, you can get an indentation in your gums and jawbone where the tooth used to be. This happens because the jawbone recedes when it no longer is holding a tooth in place. Not only is this indentation unnatural looking, it also causes the replacement tooth to look too long compared to the adjacent teeth.

Now, dark patches on your gums .
Indentations along the gum line .
Irregularly sized teeth .

and many other conditions that affect the quality of your smile and your self confidence can be treated, with amazing results!
